James Madisons Favorite Station!
Title:  James Madisons Favorite Station!
Description:  Nah, he never used it, but Montpelier station is located right near Montpelier, home of the 4th President of the United States. Still serves as the local post office! Built by the Southern Railway in 1910.

Description:  Moved slightly from its original site, the station is still next to the tracks, which are just down the hill behind where I am standing. It is now the visitors center for Amherst.

Fredericksburg VRE and Amtrak Station
Title:  Fredericksburg VRE and Amtrak Station
Description:  1910-built Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad Station. Trains still stop here, but the building itself is now the Bavarian Chef restaurant.

Description:  Built in 1923 for the Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad. Ashland is just north of Richmond.

Description:  The station and tracks are in the middle of the north- and south-bound lanes of Center Street/Railroad Avenue, making this a great place to watch for trains!

Title:  Vienna Station
Description:  Now thats old! This station was built in 1859 by the Alexandria, Loudoun & Hampshire Railroad, but it served most of its life on the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad, which used it until 1968. Next to the station, the old right-of-way is now a trail.

Title:  Fredericksburg Virginia Central Station
Description:  Right next to the active station is the former Virginia Central station. The Virginia Central Railway was mostly abandoned in 1937, but a small portion in Fredericksburg remained open until 1983. The building itself has survived.

Description:  Like its counterpart, the building is also now a restaurant, the Colonial Tavern. Food is great, and you have a better view of the trains from this building than you do from the other!
