This is a view looking east at the former rail-road bridge across Bayou Teche at Breaux Bridge, LA. This enabled the SP to serve the sugar mill visible on the right on other side of the Bayou. At one time this line continued east to the Mississippi River at Anchorage, and trains got into Baton Rouge via a ferry. Breaux Bridge is still served by the Louisiana & Delta, but the tracks no longer cross the bayou here. |

This sugar mill was on the east side of Bayou Teche, in the town of Breaux Bridge. It was served by a branch of the Southern Pacific which originated in Lafayette, Louisiana. Up into the 1930's this branch contained east to the Mississippi River at Anchorage, Louisiana. |

This was the Southern Pacific's entrance into the sugar warehouse at the Levert St. John sugar mill. The mill was on the east side of Bayou Teche, just north of St. Martinville. The track ran through the building and connected with the Missouri Pacific on the other side. That's a tiny Whitcomb loco in front of the door. |
