Seoul Station |
Description: |
Seoul, South Korea- the nation's capital and home to over 10 million people. The dome in the background is the city's original station and dates from Japanese rule. The expansive, white building to the right of it is the new station, a modern affair complete with a mall. The facility is bright and clean- this in a city where things like graffiti are almost completely unheard of. Here an electric unit pulls a passenger train north out of town. Trailing the seven cars is a diesel-equipped auxiliary power car which seems to be on all of Korail's conventional passenger trains. |

This is a typical coach in Korail Saemaul service; it's still in an older green/yellow/white scheme, which has been replaced by the newer blue of the coaches on either side. |

Korean GT26CW2 |
Description: |
Korail owns a large number of GT26CW2s and uses them for both passenger and freight service. 7415 was built by Hyundai in 1997 under license from EMD. It carries a turbocharged 645 diesel and is rated at 3000hp- essentially an SD40-2, which is exactly what it sounds like. |

Seoul Train |
Description: |
Korail operates a number of Daewoo/Hyundai built diesel-hydraulic DHCs in Saemul-class service throughout the country. They were the fastest trains in Korea until introduction of the KTX electrics, which run on their own tracks. DHCs typically operate in push-pull fashion; here 145 pushes away from Seoul Station with eight cars and DHC 150 on the other end. |

Diesel trains pass at Seoul |
Description: |
Although Korail operates a large number of electric trains it also runs a good portion of its schedule with diesels. Here a southbound Mugunghwa-class train behind a GT26CW2 pulls into Seoul Station while a Tonggeun-class (commuter) run starts north with a five-car Daewoo-built DMU set. |

KL Monorail |
Description: |
Kuala Lumpur Malaysia has a monorail that runs from near Sentral Station through downtown. This isn't Disney, Seattle or even the Simpsons; the line sees heavy service daily with commuters and shoppers. |
