Album Info:One of the remaining jewels left in the once busy railroading town of Salamanca, NY, is the Burffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh RR station on 320 N. Main Street. Built in 1912, it served as the passenger station for the BR&P while most of the freight was handled at the East Salamanca station. The station was abandoned back in 1960 and stood empty for 20 years before being transformed into the Salamanca Rail Museum in 1980. Filled with many railroading artifacts of the former railroading days in town, it is worth exploring. The only regret I have is not being able to stay longer to explore all that is in the museum. The photos uploaded show only a fraction of the fascinating things inside. And if you are lucky enough to meet Stan Carlson, the museum caretaker, resident historian, and talented artist, you will be in for a wonderful guide through the museum and the history of Salamanca, NY. Shame the beautiful Erie station located across the street couldn't be saved from its decaying existence like this station under the dedicated care of the railroad historical society in town. Both stations should be preserved but it is up to the Seneca Indian Nation to save the Erie one since they own it as part of their reservation. (see previously posted Erie station album).

RR Telephone Booth - Salamanca Rail Museum
Title:  RR Telephone Booth - Salamanca Rail Museum
Description:  The hexagonal rr telephone booth was a common shape used by B&O in its heyday. Not sure if this is an Erie, B&O, or BR&P booth. Anyone know for sure?
