I found this track switch in this position while checking out the action in Dothan AL. It was near the intersection of the Bayline railroad and Selma Street. After I found no rail employees on site, I called the police department thinking they may need to be watchful of area trespassers and report the tampered switch to someone with the Bayline so as to correct it. About the time the cops showed up a couple of Bayline employees came along and told me that this happens all the time in this area and that they are watchful of it. BUT, it points up why railfans sometimes get a bad reputation from other persons actions. While no responsible fan would do such a thing, this is the kind of thing that causes all of us to suffer. It also points up that seeing and reporting this kind of thing can put railfans in a respectable light and show a differance between responsible railfans and trespassers meaning to do harm. |

The old ACL passenger depot in Dothan, which was used by Amtrak prior to the demise of the Floridian in 1979, is finally getting some well deserved attention after many fits and starts. The City of Dothan is planning on moving several offices into the depot after renovation including using it as a base for it's small bus system. |
