It is operating near the Altoona Passenger Station, just after the arrival of a nine-car westbound mail-express train pulled by four EMD "E" units.

Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, in June of 1964. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (F to R) are PRR engine #7089 and four more "Geeps" whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7089 was constructed in November of 1956. They're braking a fully-loaded mineral train down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve on its way to the Eastbound Receiving Yard in Altoona. Wave to the Engineman!

4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1964. Shown here are PRR engines #2217, #2211, #2219, #2206, and #2245. All are EF-22's built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Bridge with an 80-car TrucTrain bound for Enola and points East. The caboose is #477866. Also visible are two westbound freight trains awaiting orders to proceed, as well as two passenger cars awaiting reconditioning in the PRR's Passenger Car Shops behind them. Visible in the center distance, beyond the 7th Street Bridge, are some of the PRR's 12th Street Shop buildings.

Description:
FSF. Here is the first of two duplicate 35mm color slides via Al Chione that were taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1964. The photographer is not identified. At center-left are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9724 and a "BF" Class B-unit whose road number is not recorded. #9724 is a BF-16 constructed by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in March of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966. At center-right are PRR engine #2213 and three more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #2213 is an EF-22 built in March of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Both trains have changed engine and train crews, and await movement orders to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Winter. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 03 January 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #7108 and #7054. Both are EFS-17M's built by EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each; #7108 was built in 1957, but #7054 was built in 1956. They are moving past WORKS Tower with a string of empty hopper cars, and are about to climb the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Visible on the left are some of the PRR's Passenger Car Shops. Visibile above the train is the 4th Street Bridge: the new (girder) version is being built inside the old (cast iron) structure.
