SAR Class 8E E8029
Title:  SAR Class 8E E8029
Description:  Between 1983 and 1985 the South African Railways placed one hundred Class 8E centre-cab electric shunting locomotives in service, numbered in the range from E8001 to E8100. Designed by a consortium consisting of Brown Boveri of Switzerland and Siemens of Germany, it was built by Union Carriage and Wagon in Nigel, who also fabricated the mechanical components. Another seven of these locomotives were built for the mining industry.

SAR Class 37-000 37-099
Title:  SAR Class 37-000 37-099
Description:  Between May 1981 and 1982 the South African Railways placed one hundred Class 37-000 EMD GT26M2C diesel-electric locomotives in service. It is a more powerful version of the EMD Class 34-200, 34-600 and 34-800, designed by Electro-Motive Diesel and built by General Motors South Africa in Port Elizabeth. They were numbered in the range from 37-001 to 37-100. In 2008 one of them, no. 37-010, was rebuilt to Class 39 prototype no. 39-251 that was tested but rejected by Transnet and later reported as sold to RRL.

SAR Class 11E 11-015
Title:  SAR Class 11E 11-015
Description:  Between 1985 and 1987 the South African Railways placed forty-five Class 11E heavy goods 25 kV AC electric locomotives with a Co-Co wheel arrangement in mainline service on the Coalink line, numbered in the range from 11-001 to 11-045. The locomotive was designed by General Motors, while the thyristor traction technology was provided by Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) of Sweden. It was built in South Africa by General Motors South Africa, whose corporate name was changed to Delta Motor Corporation two thirds through the locomotive building process.
