MILW 2-8-2 #596 - Milwaukee Road
Description:
Having just been declared retired in the month of April in 1954, this 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive still looks like would like to keep working. After nearly 33 years of service, the loco was moved from the active to the scrap side of the roster in April of 1954. Sad moment in a proud service record. .Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 287,600 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

MILW 2-8-2 #628 - Milwaukee Road
Description:
Long before an EMD switcher wore the number MILW 628, this 2-8-2 Mikado had the honor. Buiilt by Alco-Brooks in July of 1912 as CM&StP #1873 (serial #51452), it was first renumbered 8073 later in 1912 and then again to CMStP&P 628 in 1938. It lasted until retirement in May of 1954 - one of the longer lasting of this group. This may actually be the last photo taken before it met the scrapper's torch. The stripping has not started yet when the photo was taken however. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 277,800 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. An unknown photographer took this photo.
