It became UP 100 on April 11, 1986, retired May 27, 2005 and became the core for UPY 2659. A total of 13 out of 82 former MP B23-7's were repainted UP yellow with Missouri Pacific as the road name. This unit was not among those with MP lettering, however, it has the North Little Rock style of UP lettering, using a more squared font, most noticable in the letters U, O, and C. |

I noticed the odd fuel tank, but failed to notice the odd cab. The following is from utahrails.net: Built as Kennecott Copper Corp. (KCC) 779-class units; to MKT in late 1984. All units originally fitted with high-visibility cabs (26 inches higher than normal EMD cabs) for service in Kennecott's Bingham Canyon copper mine near Salt Lake City; the units were modified with lower cabs by National Railway Equipment, in one lf that company's first projects, at a leased facility in Clearfield, Utah, in August through October 1984, and immediately entered service on MKT. On all except UP 2353, the entire cab was lowered by removing the 26 inches of extra height, but because the actual cab roof was then too low, a four-inch hump was added to allow clecrance to open the cab interior electrical cabinet doors. The extra-height cab on UP 2353, ex MKT 383, originally KCC 782, was in very poor shape from wreck damage rgpair by Kennecott (the cab had been sheared off by a mining shovel in the Bingham Canyon Mine). Union Pacific Railroad GP38AC 1999 at Cotter, Arkansas on April 5, 1992, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. I thought this might be ex-IC 9519, later MKT 343, however, it does not have the L-shaped Engineer's front window, so now I'm not sure. |

Union Pacific Railroad GP38-2 2119 and B23-7 111 at Cotter, Arkanvas on April 15, 1992, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. To the left of the frame the railroad climbed into the Ozarks, so for most of its life, the White River Division of the MP/UP added or used the more powerful locomotives west/north. So trains would be swapped at Cotter, the lesser$horsepower locomotives would take the south/east train to Newport. This gave me the opportunity to get some night shots as the crews rested. |
