WAB 2-8-0 2325 - Wabash Railway
Title:  WAB 2-8-0 2325 - Wabash Railway
Description:  Just like its sister WAB #2324 in the previous photos, WAB 2325 was part of a 30 unit order built by Burnham, Williams & Co (predecessor of Baldwin Locomotive Works) as a class H-7 for the Wheeling & Lake Erie RR. The locomotive had 58” drivers and an overall engine/tender wheelbase of 57.87”. During the 1920’s, Wabash had acquired these units, supercharged them creating class I3s units. Although these short-haul engines didn’t gain much power, fuel economy may have been the reason behind the upgrade.

CO 2-10-2 #2979 - Cheaspaeak & Ohio
Title:  CO 2-10-2 #2979 - Cheaspaeak & Ohio
Description:  The Pere Marquette Railway bought fifteen "Santa Fe" type locomotives from the American Locomotive Company in 1918. The locomotives were designated as Class SF and carried road numbers 1101 through 1113. They had 64" diameter drivers, 29" x 32" cylinders, a 210 psi boiler pressure and they exerted 77,059 pounds of tractive effort and each weighed 398,000 pounds. These 2-10-2s were conveyed to the C&O in 1947 and were renumbered with C&O numbers 2975 through 2989. At 324,000 pounds they were among the lightest and had a relatively small boiler and cylinder size. Also of note were the leading and trailing wheels, at 33" in diameter they were about 10 inches smaller most in use. C.W. Jernstrom photo

PRR 8888, AS-10, c. 1964
Title:  PRR 8888, AS-10, c. 1964
Description:  Chione. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8888, an AS-10 switcher built by the American Locomotive Company in November of 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. Looks to me like it's powering a work train that's cleaning-up a derailed passenger train. Note the N-6B cabin car that's been refurbished and painted yellow for work train service. The photographer's name, the exact date, and the location are not recorded.

PRR 4339, EFP-15, 1966
Title:  PRR 4339, EFP-15, 1966
Description:  Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in Toledo, Ohio, during September of 1966. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4339 and #1454. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #4339 was built as EFP-15 number "9839" in April of 1952 and renumbered "4339" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. #1454 was constructed as EF-15 number "9667" in March of 1949 and renumbered "1454" for the merger. In my opinion, #4339 has become a sad example of the PRR's policy of "deferred maintenance." ("Stoneborobranch"; #3 of 10)
