WE 6349 in Creek Hills
Title:  WE 6349 in Creek Hills
Description:  W&LE 6349 is an SD40-2 formerly owned by the Kansas City Southern. This bridge was opened to rail traffic in 1933 for the Pittsburgh and West Virginia Railway, In 1964 the line was leased to the Norfolk and Western. Then in 1990 it got leased to the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway, which is the train you see here. After crossing this bridge the train enters the rugged Creek Hills area and crosses several more bridges before going over the much higher Banning Bridge over the Yough River. For anyone interested in railfanning this bridge, it takes approx. 30-40 minutes for a train to reach Chaintown after leaving Connellsville.

WE 3016 (4)
Title:  WE 3016 (4)
Description:  Leading an empty ore/coke train west over the rusty old Chaintown Bridge, the beginning of the remote Creek Hills area. Since the last time I photographed this engine, it has gotten new number boards but now it has a burnt out ditch light. WE 3016 is a former Wisconsin Central 3016, Oxford 3016, and Union Pacific 3016 SD40 built in 1966. Acquired by Wheeling and Lake Erie in 1992 and rebuilt by their Brewster Shops in September 2000.

Wheeling and Lake Erie on Chaintown Bridge
Title:  Wheeling and Lake Erie on Chaintown Bridge
Description:  A look at some of the matching empty ore/coke hoppers going west over the old landmark bridge of the former N&W and P&WV railroads. Completed in 1933. Behind me where I was standing is the beginning of the remote Creek Hills area. That road might look decent here but gets much worse after that.

Title:  WE 305 and 301 (4)
Description:  Two matching EMD GP40-3s on an 18 car freight train heading west through Creek Hills/Chaintown Pa. The train was going too fast at this point to follow it any further. With all of the new trackwork they have done, it has really improved train speeds.
