CN local services American Colloid Co. via former C&NW rails at Snells, WI on 8 Jul. '14. Snells is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. A Post Office was established on 4 May 1876, originally called Snell’s Station, sometimes referred to as Snell’s Crossing. This once small, rural community included a depot, cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. Snells was located at Mile 183 on the SOO’s Trevor to Somerset line and Mile 173.1 on the C&NW’s Milwaukee to Marinette line. It does not look like any substantial remnants of the original community remain, even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone.

The unit train of tank cars at right rests upon the former C&NW main line. Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 are partially visible in thf background at left. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 anf eventually demolished.

I believe it is, or was, owned by RGL Logistics, 1715/1725 Dixie Rd., Neenah, WI (physically located in Town of Neenah). A trio of interesting and colorful foreigners lead a unit train of 2-bay covered hoppers along Hwy. 41 and approaching the Hwy. G overpass while headed northeast via CN, former SOO, rails at Snells, WI on 27 Apr. '18. Snells, formerly known as Snell’s Station or Snell’s Crossing, is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. This once small, rural community included a depot, cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. It does not look like any substantial remnants of the community remain, even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone. The former C&NW rails, also in use by CN, run parallel along the other side of the train. The facility at right has an indoor spur, but I don't know if it is currently used. I believe it is owned by RGL Logistics, 1715/1725 Dixie Rd., Neenah, WI (physically located in Town of Neenah). Previous occupants of the facility include Checker Logistics and Warehouse Specialists, Inc.

Train had two locomotives, CN 3210 pulling and CN 3002 pushing. The through freight at left rests upon a remnant of the former C&NW main line, now relegated to a passing siding. I was trying to duplicate the view in an awesome photograph on this site which was recently chosen as an Editor's Pick, http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2749619. The contributor (very deserving of the red ribbon) has labeled the location as Minneapolis, but I agree with one of the commenters who believes that the photograph was captured at Neenah. I did not get the angle quite right, plus I will need to try again when the sun is in a better position.
