CD#810288-1 Arriving Into Krivoklat |
Description: |
I actually wasnt in Krivoklat to see this train. :-) I had actually taken a steam trip there for the day, and was waiting for ex-CSD 498.022 to arrive back to pick us up. |

ex-CSD#498.022 Passing Krivoklat |
Description: |
This was also on the day of the Krivoklat steam excursion, and this was our locomotive, ex-CSD #498.022. The 498 Class was supposedly the fastest Czech steam locomotive class of all time with a speed record of 162Km/h in 1964, set by #498.106 "Albatros." This locomotive is often mistaken for #498.106 "Albatros," and is even misrepresented in the literature promoting steam trips in the Czech Republic, partly because the locomotives are sisters in the same class. This three-car train, incidentally, was NOT our train, as our train was closer to 42 cars, if I'm remembering right. 498.022 didn't stop this time, as it had to go fetch the rest of the train before backing into the station again. |

CSD Coal Stove |
Description: |
CSD used coal stoves for heating surprisingly late in their history, and this ancient-looking, wooden, 4-wheel, coal-heated passenger car actually is only from the early-1940s, being built during World War II, of course. These very old-fashioned cars also served well into the modern-era, and can be seen in 1970s and 1980s Czech movies. |

Long Train At Krivoklat |
Description: |
When 489.022 passed by Krivoklat the first time, it actually didnt stop, as it still had to fetch this immense train from a siding. In terms of number of cars, this was the longest train that Ive ever ridden on, with 42 cars, illegal in both the U.S. and Britain. |

Long Train At Krivoklat, Picture 2 |
Description: |
This shot gives a better impression of just how long our train was. The previous shot was looking back, whereas this one is looking forward. In spite of being on a curve, its almost impossible to see the front of the train!! |
