The train is working hard as it approaches the highest elevation (about 730M) on the Main South Line. The 14 EL-class units built in Australia by Goninan from 1990 with 12-cylinder GE prime movers.

CountryLink offers twice-daily, ten-hour service on the roughly 600 mile line between Australia's two largest cities. The XPT is based on a British-design, with 2000HP locomotives on each end.

Title:  Australian Beauty: QRN CLF-Class CLF-3
Description:  17 CL-class units were built by Clyde/EMD as model AT26C for Commonwealth RY from 1970. They carry a 16-645 for 3300HP and subsequently rebuilt in the early '90s into CLF (freight) and CLP (passenger) configurations. CLF-3 and its three mates in this train still wear Genesee & Wyoming colors but belong to QR National. Their unique design features the final use of EMD's "Bulldog" nose attached to a carbody that looks more like an F-45.
