Hay in the field |
Description: |
They dont grow much out here, and what they do grow is mostly irrigated. This part of Colorado is on the western edge of the Oglalla Aquifer, which waters most of the area from north to south, between the Missouri River and the Rockies. Hay, however, is grass, which grows here naturally, a good fit for the semi arid climate-about 14" of rain annually-and is seen where there isnt grazing. A small section of hay bales greets the train near Agate. |

More train, less hay |
Description: |
A wider view of the 4014 and train at Agate. As always in this part of the country, an elevator is in the distance. |
