On the Danbury Branch |
Description: |
MN 5045 sits at a photo stop on the MN Budd and Branch trip. Steam heat was still the standard, note the leaking steam pipe under the FL 9. Also of note is a New Haven hallmark, the Hancock air whistle, mounted atop the cab between the windshields. |

Not exactly an RDC |
Description: |
The idea behind the title of MNs "Budd and Branch" trip was that it would run with a pair of RDCs on the ex New Haven branches served by MN. As I recall(30!years later) there was a mechanical issue with the Budd cars, and a pull-pull train powered by FL 9s was run. The cars were an ex Amtrak coach and this SEPTA ex Reading car. |

CDOT car |
Description: |
Connecticut DOT acquired a variety of rail equipment, which was painted variously for Metro North, Amtrak, and later New Haven, heritage units long before NS or UP had the idea. Despite the paint jobs, it ran where DOT needed it, and it was not uncommon to see an Amtrak painted car on a New Haven commuter train. Such is the case here, a CDOT car painted Amtrak working on the Danbury Branch. |
