GAAB 21 sits with GGS GP7u (ex-ATSF) and caboose, making up the complete GAAB roster in the early 1990s. The GAAB and GGS were eventually merged into the GSWR operations and all units moved on to other railroads and owners. |

Old Central of Georgia depot being torn down |
Description: |
If a picture is worth a thousand words, these tell it all. Perhaps in this case they are worth a thousand regrets. The depot at Dawson was never a grand attraction. It wasn't near any battlefields or to my knowledge never hosted any sitting presidents. But it was a classic small town depot. The type that are slowly vanishing from our landscape. This old depot served many railroads (Central RR of Georgia, Central of Georgia, Southern Railway, Norfolk Southern, Georgia and Florida, and GSWR at least) and served each one well. Progress now deems she be chunked into the garbage heap of time marching on. We are all less because of her demise. |
