CB&Q 0-6-0 Class G-1 1344
Title:  CB&Q 0-6-0 Class G-1 1344
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 0-6-0 Class G-1 1344 at an unknown location in 1914, photographer unknown. According to the book, Steam Locomotives Of The Burlington Route, by Bernard G. Corbin and William F. Kerka, number 1344 was built in 1889 as an 0-6-0 by CB&Q's West Burlington Shops as number 298, renumbered in 1898 to 1298, renumbered again in 1904 to 1344, and was retired in August 1921.

Hol Wagner adds: I'm fairly sure the 1344 is simply doing one of its designed chores: shoving a tender, disconnected from its locomotive, into the Ottumwa roundhouse for repair or temporary storage while the locomotive was worked on. And the roundhouse is almost certainly at Ottumwa, the 1344 being assigned to the Ottumwa Division in 1914.

CB&Q 4-6-0 Class K-2 657
Title:  CB&Q 4-6-0 Class K-2 657
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-0 Class K-2 657, date, location, and photographer unknown, print by Tom Klinger, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 657 was built by the Grant Locomotive Works of Cicero, Illinois in June 1893 as Burlington & Missouri River number 329 (c/n 1812) renumbered to CB&Q 657 and classed K-2 in 1904, retired in March 1943. The CB&Q Locomotive Assignment Sheet dated November 1, 1932 shows number 657 assigned to the Ottumwa Division. As it turned out, this was one of the last (if not the last) locomotives constructed by the Grant Locomotive Works. Although 55 locomotives were ordered by the CB&Q, only three were built (#'s B&MR 327, 328, 329, later, CB&Q 655, 656, 657) before a strike at the Works closed the plant. The Works went into receivership and was purchased by the Siemens & Halske Electric Company. The locomotive order was completed under the new ownership, but sold to other railroads.

MILW F7 109A
Title:  MILW F7 109A
Description:  MILW F7 109A, Ottumwa, Iowa, August 29, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in December 1950 (c/n 11800) on EMD Order 3036A, it was retired in May 1980, scrapped in February 1983. It is leading an A-B-B-A-A locomotive consist, parked at Ottumwa awaiting a new crew. This was a friendly location, I picked up old train orders and expired employee timetables from the folks on duty in the office in the background.

MILW SD10 551
Title:  MILW SD10 551
Description:  MILW SD10 551 at Ottumwa, Iowa on March 1, 1982, photo by Ken Kessler, Chuck Zeiler collection. This locomotive was built as MILW SD9 2228 in January 1954 (c/n 18773) on EMD Order 5287. It was later renumbered MILW SD9 534, classed as 17.5-ERS-6. It was one of four SD9's (plus 17 SD7's) rebuilt into SD10's (class 18-ERS-6) starting in 1974. The SD10 program involved a rebuilt Model 567BC prime mover, now rated at 1850 hp, rewiring, a chopped short hood, in this case, a Horst air filter (the duct on the roof behind the cab), 26L brake system, and relocating the air reservoirs. Eventually this unit became DME 551.
