CNW 4-6-2 #604 - Chicago & North Western
Title:  CNW 4-6-2 #604 - Chicago & North Western
Description:  Long before a GP9 carried the number 604, this steamer had the honor. Built by Alco-Schenectady in December of 1915 as CNW 4-6-2 Pacific #1604, the loco served 37 years before being renumbered in 1952 to CNW 604 as seen in this photo. No final disposition date could be found for the loco. Specs - serial #55534, class E, 75" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt of 261,000 lb, tractive effort of 36,700 lb. A stoker was apllied in October of 1943. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Title:  CNW 4-6-2 #612 - Chicago & North Western
Description:  Standing in the Barringon, IL, yard on Christmas Day in 1955 was Chicago & North Western 4-6-2 Pacific #610 and ready to roll out. Built by Alco-Schenectady in October of 1916 as CNW #1612, it was later renumbered CNW 612 in 1952. No final disposition date was found for the loco but it would have been scrapped in the late 1950's. Specs - serial #56231, class E, 75" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt of 263,500 lb, tractive effort of 39,600 lb. A stoker was applied in May of 1942. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Description:  On this September day in 1979, Jim Soble caught this photo of CNW F7A unit in commuter service with its matching commuter cars in tow. The unit was built by EMD in March of 1949 (bldr #4071) and after 30 years of service is starting to show some age marks but still a fine looking unit.
