Atlanta, Birmingham & Atlantic Railroad Company circular #1491 announcing Agent-Operator vacancy |
Description: |
Issued at Superintendent C. E. Brower's office in Fitzgerald, Georgia. The railroad had reached Lineville only 9 years earlier, in 1907. My grandfather later bid on the Lineville agency (in the 1930's) and held the Supervisory Agent-Operator position for over 40 years. Several Western Division agencies were staffed by Supervisory Agents who could NOT be rolled off their jobs by men with seniority. Supervisory Agents were a hybrid position between management and normal rank and file agency positions. |

Lineville Subdivision schedules from the December 16, 1965 Western Division employee timetable |
Description: |
Of special note is the fact that Atlantic Coast Line's Elyton Yard was still in service as the move to Louisville & Nashville's Boyles Yard was still months away. With the move to Boyles, Lineville Subdivision thru freights no longer ran Parkwood - Elyton but rather accessed the L&N at Parkwood and utilized trackage rights to access Boyles Yard |

Atlantic Coast Line Railroad train order #313 establishing CTC operation between Pelham and Parkwood, Alabama issued to northward trains originating |
Description: |
Sections of the Lineville Subdivision began to receive CTC in the mid 1950's, however, the entire subdivision wasn't CTC controlled until May 1, 1966 as evidenced by this train order. My grandfather, H. R. Feltman, copied this train order and issued it to the Lineville - Birmingham northbound daily local train #508. At this time, train orders on the Lineville Subdivision were issued over the initials of "RLL", Superintendent R. L. Lightfoot who was based in Manchester, Georgia. |

Seaboard Coast Line #334, the daily Frisco/UP run-thru train bound for East Thomas Yard in Birmingham, has been routed thru the siding as the Lineville Switcher has the main tied up while working customers on the Hill Track |
Description: |
With three, and at times as many as five customers, The Hill Track could quite a chunk of time to switch. To switch customers and classify cars to and from those customers could tie up both the main and the House Track. The cars on the main are south cars destined for Manchester and beyond while the cars on the House Track are north cars destined for Birmingham and beyond. When switching is complete, the cars will be coupled in one long cut, pulled by the north end signal at Lineville and backed down the siding to the outside track. The cars will then be shoved into the Outside Track (on the other side of the NP box) with the south cars coming to rest across from the front door of the depot. The north cars will be uncoupled and pulled to the north of the outside track (about 60 car lengths from the depot) in a ritual that would be repeated daily. |
