What a surprise when we found the Jasper Indiana depot. It looked like it was brand new - and then we found out it actually was. The depot was built in 2005 by the City of Jasper using the original Southern Rwy blueprints for the original 1906 Jasper depot. The original depot was torn down in 1970 but the City of Jasper resurrected the building to host public and private events. One of those being the "City of Jasper" train excursions. |

Built sometime between 1917 and 1922, the Spirit of Jasper Lounge Car #300 was originally a "coffin car" with shelves to transport deceased Korean War and WW II soldiers back to the home towns. Jasper city official "promise" the car isn't haunted . . . well maybe during Halloween! It was obtained by the City of Jasper in 2006 and was renovated by local businesses and individuals in a dining car seating configuration in 2007. The lounge car has a seating capacity of 48 passengers (48 in dining configuration). |
