Description:  Here is a photo by R.D. Smith. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5415, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during February of 1927 and retired in May of 1948 after 21 years of faithful service. The exact date and the location are not recorded. Gary Mittner Collection.

The occasion was a steam powered fantrip with Dick Jensen's GTW 4-6-2 number 5629 as power. The drumhead reads: 'Railroad Club Of Chicago' (in the center) and 'Railfans Special' around the edge. While cleaning the scan of the slide, I noticed the left side of the cupola was occupied. It must have been quite a show from that vantage point.

Description:  Oil Power. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in January of 1968. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4285 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #4285 was constructed as number "5885" in March of 1950 and renumbered "4285" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. In this context, they're rockin' 'n' rollin' with a 14-car passenger train.

Description:  In August 1978 I rode the Broadway from New York to Chicago. At the time, it was still a main freight route to the Windy City for Conrail, and I recall a number of things from that trip. One was outrunning a white Firebird that was pacing us on adjacent US 30. The other was that we seemed to meet an eastbound every 30 minutes or so. There also was some local traffic on the route, as we see here. A solo GP 7 works a siding near Valpo.
