Westbound on the NEKM
Title:  Westbound on the NEKM
Description:  The weekday local for the Northeast Kansas & Missouri has departed St Jo MO and is headed back home to Hiawatha KS. TNER GP40 3083 leads NEKM Geep 2167. NEKM took over the former St Joseph & Grand Island line from the UP in 1990 and opearted it for only nine years before selling it back to UP; the portion from Elwood to Hiawatha has subsequently been abandoned.

Y marks the spot
Title:  Y marks the spot
Description:  Looking west, the yard limit marker is the end of the line at Elwood, KS on tracks that had been used over the years by UP (St Joseph & Grand Island), RI, OKKT and NEKM. Abandoned in 2004 when the UP bought out the NEKM, this route is disconnected in sections for several hundred yards east of here and then runs about two miles to St Joseph via the bridge over the Missouri River. What's left appears to be used largely for car storage now.
