ES&NA 1 |
Description: |
EUREKA SPRINGS AR Oct 1981 -- Eureka Springs & North Arkansas loco No. 1 gets a wood pilot for an appearance in a television mini-series. I believe the series was titled The Blue and the Grey. This locomotive is no longer in operation. According to Wikipedia, "No. 1, a 2-6-0 (Mogul), built 1906, Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, PA; serial #29588; wood-burner; 75,000 lb (34,000 kg); 200 psi (1,400 kPa); 12,000 lb (5,400 kg) tractive effort.[7] Retired in the late 1990s because of the expense of burning 1½ to 2 cords of wood each workday. An expensive boiler re-build was also mandated by the state boiler inspector. In early 2011, the loco was moved to the[8] Reader Railroad in Reader, Arkansas for evaluation and possible repair." |

ESNA 2-6-0 #201 - Eureka Springs & Northern Arkansas |
Description: |
Somehow a 1906 Alco 2-6-0 Mogul built for the Isthmian Canal construction ended up at the Eureka Sprints & Northern Arkansas tourist railroad. Unfortunately the loco is no longer running having been sidelined in early 2000's due to boiler rebuild requiements. Does anyone know the disposition of the loco now? It is not listed on their webiste being on active duty. The photographer who took this was listed only as "Jones". |

Eureka Springs and North Arkansas Railway Company depot built 1913 |
Description: |
Original depot built 1882 for Eureka Springs Railway was replaced by this depot. My wife and I were on vacation and had paid to ride but the train needed a minimum passenger count. After waiting some hours for just 2 more people it was time to begin putting together the dinner train. Everyone's money was refunded, they apologized, AND let everyone ride the passenger car as they changed out the cars! Unfortunately, I was out of film! |
