NJ & NY North Hackensack Depot
Title:  NJ & NY North Hackensack Depot
Description:  The North Hackensack depot was built in 1895 to replace the Cherry Hill depot which had been destroyed by a cyclone. Modified over the years, it eventually became Jay's Fish Market, resulting in this trackside profile. The basic bones of the structure however remained intact. Sadly, this building burned to the ground shortly after this picture was taken. I really whish I'd shot a picture of this building with a better camera than my dad's 1936 vintage Argus Model A (hence the vignetting and softness)

River Edge Station
Title:  River Edge Station
Description:  Here is a photo of the River Edge Passenger Station at River Edge Road in River Edge, NJ taken 1/28/2025. This is the second station that was built here. The original station was destroyed by fire from the spark from a passing train on February 8. 1901. The new station was opened on September 22, 1902. According to Wikipedia, there is a heated waiting area for passengers. I do not know if there is an agent available here. If there is, its for a brief period in the morning. I did not see any TVMs, but they could be located out of view or in the stations waiting room. I do know NJTransit assesses a $5 surcharge for buying your ticket on the train. If those station walls could talk. The station has witnessed the New Jersey and New York taken over by the Erie Railroad. It has witnessed the change from steam to diesels. It has witnessed the Erie Lackawanna merger, the Conrail merger and NJTRansits takeover of commuter rail service in the state. Its seen the RS2s, RS3s and Stilwell coaches be replaced by U34CHs and the dieseling coaches that would be renamed Comet 1s by NJTransit. Then the U34CHs were replaced by GP40PH-2s, GP40PH-2As, GP40PH-2Bs, PL42ACs and ALP45DPs. The Comet 1 coaches were supplimented by Comet2s, COMArrows, Comet 3s, Comet 4s and ultimately the Comet 5s and Multilevels replacing all the earlier Comet equpment.
