Description:  Although the original print has degraded badly, the image of Lehigh Valley 2-10-2 Santa Fe type steam locomotive appears fairly well. The loco was used in helper service at the West Portal of the Pattenburg Tunnel in New Jersey. An unknown photographer capture the loco. No date was give but based on other photos that were with this, it would be circa 1932

Description:  Another 2-10-2 Santa Fe type steam locomotive in helper service was captured by an unidenitified photographer as it worked at the West Portal of the Pattenburg Tunnel. The original photo was badly degraded but the image of the loco can be seen fairly well. No date was given but based on other photos that were with this one, it would be circa 1932.

Title:  LV 4-8-4 #5126 - Lehigh Valley
Description:  This original b&w print is heavily sepia toned now but still shows Lehigh Valley 4-8-4 "Wyoming" type loco #5126 (serial #61809, T-3 class) highballing it through West Portal, NJ. "Wyoming" was the name that LV gave to the Northern type loco. This loco lasted until meeting the scrapper's torch in January of 1951. Specs - 77" drivers, impressive 275psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 435,000 lb, tractive effort of 66,500 lb. No date or photographer was listed for the photo so an approximate date was used.

Title:  LV 4-8-4 #5202 - Lehigh Valley
Description:  Puffing smoke as it rolls through West Portal, NJ is Lehigh Valley 4-8-4 "Wyoming" (LV's name for Northerns) #5202. Built by ALCo-Schenectady in April of 1932 (serial #68611, class T-2a), the loco barely served 19 years before being scrapped in January of 1951 when the diesels hit the roster. Specs - 70" cylinders, 255 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 424,000 lb, tractive effort of 66,700 lb. No date or photographer was listed for the photo so an approximate date was used.

The loco was built by Baldwin in Jantuary of 1923 (serial #56089) and served for nearly 25 years before meeting the scrapper's torch in November of 1948. Title:  Engine Fire Aboard NS 11J
Description:  WB empty autorack train 11J suffered a moderate engine fire in the trailing locomotive as the train was passing through Musconetcong Tunnel on the NS Lehigh Line. Local fire department and NJ state police were summoned to the scene to extinguish the blaze. The fire damaged trailing unit continued DIT and showed burn marks on the side panels. 1147 hours.
