Ex-FW&D #94 GENERAL JOHN A. HULEN |
Description: |
CB&Q modernized heavyweight business car #94 GENERAL JOHN A. HULEN in private ownership. Built by Pullman in December 1915 in Lot #4362 as the Plan #2521B 10 section (10S) sleeper-lounge observation NORTH GATE for the general service pool. Changed to Plan variant #2521E in October 1930 and repainted at that time from Pullman Green to MILW Maroon & Orange. Repainted back to Pullman Green in May 1934. Sold to the Burlington at the 12/31/1948 divestiture as #673 (1st), later renumbered to #640 (2nd). Withheld from lease in October 1949 and subsequently rebuilt in September 1951 to business car #94 (2nd), later to subsidiary FW&D (still as #94) on 4/28/1954, and named GENERAL JOHN A. HULEN at that time. Hulen was the first president (as of 1930) of the Burlington-Rock Island RR, a 50-50 joint-CRI&P/CB&Q (C&S)-owned company in Texas. The #94 later went back to the CB&Q in February 1967, and was sold that same month to Walter Loftin, Jr.-Rail Travel Associates in Arlington, VA. RTA planned to rename the car to VIRGINIA, but based on photographic evidence, that name was never applied. The car was later resold to LEMAC in Wildwood, FL, and later was resold again to a private owner, first in Lakeland, FL, and later in Leesburg, FL, where it was scrapped in the early 2000's. At Cameron Station, VA. Scanned with an Epson V550 from a duplicate 35mm slide, brand is unknown. Date is approximate. Photographer is unknown. |

These two cabooses were built sometime in the 1890s (I think) and have been parked on this lot next to the old Santa Fe Cleburne shops for a number of years. These two have slowly been rotting away facing an uncertain future. Hopefully someone will step in and save these two before the city condemns the pair. |

FW&D 157 |
Description: |
Fort Worth & Denver Railway class NE13B 157 at Cicero, Illinois on June 8, 1982, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 157 was built by Morrison International Car Company in 1967, was involved in a wreck and sent to a contract repair shop for rebuilding. It returned to service in December 1981, painted in the as-delivered colors, except for the herald and steps. As built, the herald was a Scothlite decal, no longer available in 1981, so the herald was hand-painted on the car. The yellow steps and appliances were a FW&D modification in the 1970's from the original black. The FW&D was formally merged into the BN on December 31, 1982, and had this repair taken place after that date, the car would likely have been painted Cascade Green. |

Description: |
This cab hop with a FW&D waycar was coming into the yard from the west. I think it was coming in from Golden. |

FW&D (BN) caboose 176 |
Description: |
FW&D caboose 176. This caboose was built in August 1978. It has been sitting behind Mbgnus Farley in Fremont for 30+ years. The reporting marks were crossed out & "685CV" was stenciled on the side, not knowing what that means. This caboose should actually be at a museum. |
