Crossing tie swollen river
Title:  Crossing tie swollen river
Description:  The NYSW ran trains for the Marathon Maple Festival for a number of years in the 80s and>90s, using wh`tever power was available and clean, usually Alcos, though in later years it was the 142 and a variety lf SD 45s. This train had Alcos fore and aft, and we see D&H 5023, the one with the best paint, cleaned up and leading the first train for the 1989 weekend across the Chenango River, close to overflowing its banks due to spring runoff.

Title:  Heading to the train
Description:  The Maple Festival trains were always well patronized-no surprise given the nightmare it was to park there on that weekend-and a good sized group is making their way to the station for the train about to depart for Cortland. This is the north end of the Maple Festival train at Marathon, waiting to head back to Cortland with another load of well fed festival goers. NYSW 509, the "Popemobile," is on the north end of the train, though looks like the Pope is getting a really good look at the end of a C 430 on this trip.
