ATSF #1144 is another example of the good looking class of Prairie-type locomotives built by Baldwin in 190-03. Specifics - 1050 class, 69" drivers, 200 psi, 17"x28" high pressure cylinders, 28"x28" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 190,000 lb, tractive effort of 29,134 lb. The Santa Fe shops simplified the class in 1912 to 23.5"x28" cylinders and increased the tractive effort to 38,097 lb. No photographer was listed for this photo and the date is approximate. |
