Description:  Good looking face on a 1904 Burnham, Wms & Co built 4-4-2 steam locomotive. Specs - class 507, 79" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure, 15x26" high pressure cylinders, 25x26" low pressure cylindeers, engine weight of 202,400 lb, tractive effort of 20,364 lb. In the late 1920's ATSF scrapped quite a few of their Atlantics and simplified the remaining ones for further use. No date, location or photographer given for this original photo.

Description:  As the earliest example of an Atlantic type locomotive in this album, it was built by Burnham, Williams & Co (Baldwin) in 1904 as class 507 (first loco in series was #507). It had 79" drivers and produced an impressive 220 psi boiler pressure. This is a Forrest Trittenbach photo. The day in 1938 is approximate.

It is shifting another unit (whose number is not visible) into the East Altoona Roundhouse, which is now used for light-duty maintenance of Diesels. Note all of the weeds that now occupy the space where steam locomotives were once maintained 24/7/365!

It is pulling the five-car "Roaring Spring Local" under the southern end of the Union Street Bridge on its way through Hollidaysburg to the Altoona Yards. The cabin car is #477094. Photo taken near the eastern end of the PRR's Freight Station on South Juniata Street.
