PRR 6038, EF-25A, 1965 |
Description: |
WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took while riding in a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train from Harrisburg to Altoona during August of 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engine #6038 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both were built by EMD. #6038 is an EF-25A built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are parked just east of the 4th Street Bridge, and their crew awaits orders to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West with an iron-ore train. Partially visible a couple of tracks over are three ALCo locomotives pushing a westbound freight train out of the Yard. |

PRR 6001, EF-25A, 1965 |
Description: |
Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6038 and #6001. Both are EF-25A's built by EMD in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They are pushing a 95-car iron-ore train on the Hollidaysburg Branch Line to the Wye Switches and up the New Portage/Muleshoe Curve route to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and head back to East Altoona for another run up the Allegheny Mountains. The caboose is N-5C #477898. Also visible is the interlocking directly in front of ALTO Tower (not shown) and the headlight beam for an on-coming coal train pulled by engine #8570. This photo taken from the 17th Street Bridge. |
