Shown here (L to R) are Long Island Rail Road engines #114 and #22, and a GE "44-Tonner" diesel locomotive. #114 is an H-10S (2-8-0) built by the Lima Locomotive Works for the Pennsylvania Railroad as number "8222" during October of 1915; it's deadlined due to serious firebox issues. #22 is a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built in Juniata during January of 1924. According to Mr. Mike Woodruff, "The GE 44-tonner is LI 400, blt 12/50, GE serial 30854, sold 11/63 to the Black River & Western, later (~1967) went to the Valley RR in Connecticut." #6 of 11. |

BRW 44T #400 - Black River & Western |
Description: |
Originally delivered to the Long Island RR in December of 1950 by GE, this little switcher was the only 44T on the LIRR roster. It was sold for scrap in 1963 but was purchased by the Black River & Western in 1965. In 1969, it was sold again, this time to the Valley RR where it was epainted in NH orange and green, and renumbered 0800. Finally, in October of 1996, it was sold one more time to the Connecticut Eastern RR Museum. Quite a boomer of an engine! No date, location or photographer was listed on the photo. |
