Here is page one of a 15-page cover article by David P. Morgan entitled "World's Busiest Mountain Railroad." It was published originally in the April 1957 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 16. Photo by Philip R. Hastings. Partially visible in the foreground is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5859, an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in February of 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. It is heading a mail and express train up and around the Horseshoe Curve on its way to Gallitzin and points West. On the right are two GM-EMD GP-9 pushers on the rear end of the train. |
