The engineer of CRIP 2-8-2 #2678 waits in the St Paul yard for a clear signal to proceed. It was built by Alco-Brooks in September of 1923. Specs - K-64 class, 63" drivers, 200psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine wt of 338,200 lb, and tractive effort of 63,467 lb. With a booster added in 1931, it increased the te by 10,460 lb and with a stoker added, the weight was 347,100 lb. After nearly 28 years of service, the loco was retired and sold for scrap in September of 1951. R.H. Carlson took this photo. |
