PRR 5877, EP-20, 1964 |
Description: |
17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 April 1964. On the right (L to R) are PRR engines #5877 and #5876. Both are EP-20's built by EMD in 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. They are about to stop at the Altoona Station with a nine-car passenger train on its way to Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and New York City. On the left (L to R) are PRR engines #8608 and #8607. Both are APS-24MS's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1955 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are returning to Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and back. This photo taken adjacent to ALTO Tower. |
