Description:  One of the twelve Lima Mikados built for the DTI between 1940-44, this one was delivered in 1941 and now sitting idle before being scrapped soon. Specifics - class 800, 63" diameter drivers, 23" x 30" cylinders, a 260 psi boiler pressure, they exerted 55,671 pounds of tractive effort and each weighed 369,500 pounds, 8 wheel tenders. Description:  AHC. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5877 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are EP-20's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5877 was built in April of 1949. In this context, they're pulling a passenger train around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East.

Description:  17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 April 1964. On the right (L to R) are PRR engines #5877 and #5876. Both are EP-20's built by EMD in 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. They are about to stop at the Altoona Station with a nine-car passenger train on its way to Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and New York City. On the left (L to R) are PRR engines #8608 and #8607. Both are APS-24MS's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1955 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are returning to Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and back. This photo taken adjacent to ALTO Tower.

Description:  Here a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by R.P. Olmsted that was taken at Chicago's Union Station on 7 June 1964. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5877 and two more "EP" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5877 is an EP-20 built in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They're ready to depart the Station with a mail and express train bound for Pittsburgh and points East. ("Stoneborobranch"; #5 of 10)
