PC RS11 7623
Title:  PC RS11 7623
Description:  In April, 1977, PC-lettered RS11's 7623 and 7618 were working Morrisville yard. The RS11s may have been pretty worn following 8 years of PC-deferred maintenance, and Conrail may have written them off in the last year, but the 251Bs V12 engine was well liked by engineers for their acceleration and pulling power, and their unique sound was unmatched by EMD prime movers. Sadly, freight cars like the white PRR 40 boxcar on the adjacent track were not quite so rare in Conrails first year, and many railfans skipped the opportunity to spend our limited supply of film on them.

PRR 8618, AS-18M, 1962
Title:  PRR 8618, AS-18M, 1962
Description:  Everyday. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 24 November 1962. Shown here is PRR engine #8618, an AS-18M built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. It is pulling a 23-car mixed-cargo freight train through the Hollidaysburg Yards on its way to Williamsburg, Pennsylvania. This photo taken along South Juniata Street, just East of the Union Street Bridge.

PRR 8618, AS-18M, 1965
Title:  PRR 8618, AS-18M, 1965
Description:  WYE Tower. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train at the Wye Switches in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. Shown here is PRR engine #8618, an AS-18M built by American Locomotive Company during August of 1956 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. It's pulling a mixed-cargo freight train that is still crossing US Route 22 on its way from Hollidaysburg to Altoona. This train will travel on what was the PRR's original main line from Altoona to its connection with the New Portage Railroad from 1850 until 1854. After the Horseshoe Curve was completed and the present main line was opened in 1854, the PRR bought the Pennsylvania Canal-New Portage Railroad package from the State ~ but then abandoned both of them in 1857!

Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #7923 and #8618. #7923 is an ES-12 built by EMD in 1958 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. #8618 is an AS-18M built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. They are pulling a mixed-cargo train that originated in Hollidaysburg into the Altoona Yards, and are about to pass under the new 4th Street Bridge.
