Counter-diner 8103 was originally Santa Fe 1558, one of 16 cars (1550-1565) built by Budd in 1948 with a 14-seat lunch counter and 20 dining seats. Half of the cars were retired in 1969, while the other eight became Amtrak 8100-8107. The 8103 was photographed on the rear of the westbound SUNSET, where it was either dead-heading west or was serving as an extra food service car behind five sleepers; and was remodeled into Heritage Fleet lounge 3112 in 1981. |
