| Western Pacific Railroad U23B 2255 at North Little Rock, Arkansas on July 31, 1986, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Stencilled above the cab numbers: THIS UNIT EQUIPPED WITH FUEL SAVER, a system whereby a control panel selector allowed the Engineer to take one or more units off-line when tractive effort was not needed. What motivated the Engineer to take a unit off-line is beyond me. Number 2255 was returned to GE and entered the Super Seven program. A Super Seven is GE U series locomotive rebuilt to Dash 8 mechanicals but with Dash 7 electronics. It was rebuilt in Montreal during October 1989 to Monongahela Railway B23-S7 2301. |
