I heard a few weeks after I last visited the Calumet tower that it was torn down. I didn't go back to view the spot until more than nine months later. In this photo, the orange post to the right marks the former locaiton of the tower. Now a modern LED signal bridge just south protects the approach from the south and the entire process is remotely controlled by the Indiana Harbor Belt East Dispatcher office. The last working interlocking tower in the state of Indiana is now gone! |
