Here is a photo taken by Bob Lorenz that was published in David W. Seidel's 2008 book entitled "Images Of Rail: Horseshoe Curve," page 33. Partial Caption: "An eastbound freight consist passes the apex of Horseshoe Curve in the late 1940's, headed by J-1 Texas type No. 6405." Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6405 is a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during June of 1943 and retired in February of 1960 after just 17 years of revenue service. |
