Coal Power. Here is an original 35mm color slide (converted to B&W) by Thomas Marty that was taken at the Hawthorne Enginehouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, on 26 December 1955. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1598, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata during February of 1918 and retired in October of 1956 after 38 years of service. Note that the main rods have been removed. |
