Interesting aerial view of part of the Southern Pacific Roseville Yard damaged by an explosion on April 28, 1973. The press release from Pacific Press and UPI reads as follows "ROSEVILLE, CALF: Utter devastation remains of both this section of Southern Pacific yards here, and area beyond (top) where trees are stripped of all foliage. A string of railroad boxcars carrying nearly 1,00,000 lbs of bombs exploded one after another, forcing evacuation of 40,000 to 50,000 residents of the area from their homes and injuring dozens of persons." The yard is now Union Pacific's massive J.R. Davis Yard. |
