| For over a century, the dream was to expand the historic interurban commuter line - theChicago, South Shore & South Bend - south into Indiana. Under the current Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, that dream is becoming a reality with a 7.8 mile extension south along the Indiana/Illinois border in Lake County, IN, along the former Monon right of way.
