In this photo, my train is crossing the fly-over of MNCR's Harlem Line. The MNCR tracks linking New Haven (to the left) and Grand Central Terminal (to the right) are visible on the right.

Title:  MNCR, To Grand Central Terminal, #2 of 4, 1980
Description:  MNCR. Here is the second of four successive original photos that I took while riding a Metro-North Commuter Railroad train from Larchmont to Grand Central Terminal on Sunday, 2 March 1980. In this photo, my train has just crossed the fly-over of MNCR's Harlem Line. The MNCR tracks linking Brewster/White Plains (at the top) and Grand Central Terminal (at the left) are visible on the left. An abandoned power sub-station is visible at the right center.

MNCR, To Grand Central Terminal, #3 of 4, 1980
Title:  MNCR, To Grand Central Terminal, #3 of 4, 1980
Description:  MNCR. Here is the third of four successive original photos that I took while riding a Metro-North Commuter Railroad train from Larchmont to Grand Central Terminal on Sunday, 2 March 1980. In this photo, my train is crossing over to Track #3 so that it can stop at "Fordham" in about seven minutes. "Woodlawn" is where the two lines from/to Grand Central merge/split: Harlem to the front, New Haven to the left and right, Grand Central to the rear. Visible in the distance (F to R) is Metro-North's JO Tower, the Saw Mill River Parkway Bridge, as well as one of the highway bridges in Mount Vernon. Photo taken as my train is passing through Woodlawn Station.

Early in the morning
Title:  Early in the morning
Description:  I was out before daybreak on my day off-I worked nights and Id typically get done around 0100, go home, have dinner, watch TV, then head out to whatever train watching spot I had targeted. Today its Wakefield in the Bronx to catch the morning rush action. I got there before the sun was high enough to get good light, but shot photos anyway. Heres a set of ex NYC MUs rolling toward Grand Central on the Harlem Line.

More FL 9s
Title:  More FL 9s
Description:  Woodlawn was a great place to watch the Harlem and New Haven Lines, since the New Haven joined the ex NYC just north of here. Not sure why I didnt shoot the Connectcut cars, though I was surely going after the diesels, which even then were rumored to be up for replacement. Who knew some would last another 25 years.

Headed for Danbury
Title:  Headed for Danbury
Description:  The stars of the show in the late 80s were the four FL 9s that CDOT repainted in the New Haven McGinis scheme. They were intended for the Danbury trains, but as a practical matter, because maintenance was done at Harmon, they could turn up just as easliy on the Hudson Line. This pair is going where God and the New Haven intended as they roll north through Woodlawn.

FL 9s
Title:  FL 9s

These cars are the Bomb
Title:  These cars are the Bomb
Description:  Bomardier!!! As the hand me down cars of the streamliner era bit the dust, it was apparent they would need to be replaced. The answer was a fleet of cars built by Bombardier in Vermont. Here we see a set behind the New Haven painted FL 9s, a cab car on the rear passing through Woodlawn.
