Title:  "Juice Jacks," Page 12, 1944
Description:  Here is page five of a 32-page cover article entitled "Juice Jacks: The Electric Locomotive Comes Of Age." It was published originally in the July 1944 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 12. Shown here is New Haven Railroad engine #156, an EF-3B (2-C-C-2) electric built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in October of 1941, rated at 4,860 horsepower, and retired around August of 1959 after just 18 years of revenue service.

Metro-North, Looking Toward New Rochelle II, 1977
Title:  Metro-North, Looking Toward New Rochelle II, 1977
Description:  MNCR. Here is an original photo that I took of Metro-North Commuter Railroad property in Larchmont, New York, on the morning of 27 November 1977. This photo was taken with a 50mm lens, so it seems to be a bit further away from New Rochelle and a bit closer to Larchmont. The railhead visible at the lower left of the photo indicates that this is where a turnout to the team tracks in Larchmont joined the mainline, once upon a time. Visible on the right are a portion of Interstate Highway 95 and the smokestack belonging to the Larchmont Sanitation Department.

Note that only one of the four tracks has had ribbon-rail installed. Clickity-clack for the other three!

Racing down the middle
Title:  Racing down the middle
Description:  The center tracks were used in both directions, as this photo shows. An Amtrak train bound for Penn Station rolls on the eastbound express track through Larchmont. Judging by what look like baggage cars back in the train, this may be either 11 or 15, the Boston mail trains.

Connecticut Yankee
Title:  Connecticut Yankee
Description:  By this time, Metro North had acquired new coaches to replace most of the hand me down long distance equipment that had been holding down the commuter trains for years. The new cars were named, such as this cab car leading a Danbury train toward Grand Central.

M 2s
Title:  M 2s
Description:  A train of New Haven Line M 2s rolls down the center track at Larchmont. As you go through this group of photos, note the markings on the front of the trains. Some carry the original "M New Haven" herald. Others, like the train in this photo, have the newer "M-ball" with Metro North lettering. Some have the Connecticut DOT and state seal; others have just the state seal. Quite a variation.
