Amtrak 1038 was built by Budd in 1953 as Santa Fe 3522. All 50 of the cars in this order were delivered with outside-swing-hanger trucks, which were then swapped out for conventional trucks from sleepers, diners and lounge cars. Amtrak renumbered the car 1215 when it was wired for head-end power. Notice the non-standard red-on-white numbers, instead of the usual white-on-blue. (approximate month) |
