WB. Here is the first of two successive images of official photos that were taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on September 19, 1944. In the foreground is a portion of the cast-iron 12th Street Footbridge, along with the guard shack and employee staircase leading to the Pennsylvania Railroad's Altoona Car Shops visible in the distance. At the right, a passenger train sits by the Altoona Station, awaiting a fresh locomotive before climbing the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Johnstown and points West. Photo taken from inside Erecting Shop #3. (Not Burket Collection.) |
