I wrote this caption: "This lash up is a ABBBB set of F7s shown at the Grand Canyon Station with the seasonal train called the Grand Canyon in July 1962. This train made a nocturnal round trip (69 mi.one-way) to the mainline at Williams Jct. (home of the current Grand Canyon Ry, note the mainline has moved north about 1/2 mile) to make connections and exchanging through cars." Then Art Burton corrected it: "The photo of the Santa Fe train you posted in the Grand Canyon was not the seasonal train. This photo must be a special tour train. My dad was a Pullman Porter on the Grand Canyon Limited sleeper that went into the Canyon. I was actually with him at the age of 12 in July of 1962 on a trip. The usual train at that time was a train consisting of a GP diesel with the Pullman cars, one eastbound and one westbound, one or two chair cars and a baggage car. This train was put together at Williams Junction. To see a long train with as many passenger road engines in the consist, lets you know that was a special tour train." |
