PRR Altoona Car Shops, 1965
Title:  PRR Altoona Car Shops, 1965
Description:  Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad property between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. Shown here is all that remains of the engine ladder and ready tracks just East of the 17th Street Bridge. In olden days, this was one of the busiest places in all of PRR-Altoona. But by June 1965, there are no more roundhouses (once there were three of them here), no more locomotives waiting to be serviced or to be of service, and no more Altoona Car Shops ~ most of their functions having been transplanted to the PRR's Samuel Rea Shop in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. Nothing much left but ghosts and echoes . . . which have since been supplanted by a shopping mall and the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum.

Title:  PRR Passenger Station, 1965
Description:  Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad property between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. In olden times, the trains were much longer and the platform was much more crowded. Visible here are the 12th Street Shops on the left, the 12th Street Bridge crossing over the tracks, and the Altoona Station a little further up on the right.

In 1965, this was the exception; nowadays, it is the norm.
